The Panorama of Lutheran Hymnody

Instructor: Pastor Brian Hamer
Place: St. Luke's
Day: Sundays
Time: 2:00-3:30 pm
Why do Lutherans sing what they sing? Join this ten-session survey of post-New Testament Christian hymns. Come and explore (in English, of course!) the early Greek tradition, the church’s Latin heritage, pre-Reformation songs, the Lutheran chorale (the heart of our sung confession!), post-Reformation developments, and some living poets. Using Lutheran Service Book (LSB) as the primary text, this module will examine the text, tune, and context of the best of Christian hymns. No musical literacy or experience is required. This ten (10) week course begins on Sunday, 18 January 2026, from 2:00-3:30 pm. The registration fee is $25.00.

How to Read and Understand the Bible

Instructor: Pastor Paul Willweber
Place: St. Luke's
Day: Sundays
Time: 3:00-4:30 pm
The Bible is a book and we can read and understand it similar to other books. However, the Bible is not just any book—it is the very written Word of God. When we read it, we take in more than just information. In these pages are life and salvation. This ten week course will explore how to read the Bible and find that we do not so much interpret the Bible as it interprets us. Furthermore, the Bible itself shows us how to read and understand it so that we may be strengthened in faith in Jesus who is the heart of God’s written Word. This course begins on Sunday, 11 January 2026, at 3:00-4:30 pm. The registration fee is $25.00.
